Hi I have read your articles and this site seems very informative. However, as an example, I am trying to trim a dwarf cherry tree and I haven't a clue on: -how to cut the branch -when you say 4 limbs etc....not sure exactly where these are to be etc. -my tree is probably 3 years old and this is the first year with fruit. I don't want it to grow much taller ..it is about 16-18' tall right now but I prefer if the limbs grow outward so I can reach the fruit. Assuming I cut from the top to achieve this. It has many branches. I don't know what I should cut.k Also I have a pear tree that finally is getting some good fruit on it....this tree is 20 years old and it has never grown! I have no idea why. some years it gets copper leaves and no fruit.
Here's a link that provides drawings with pruning instructions. https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/pnw400/html and may help you understand how to prune these trees.
I have a lot of fruit on my tree but unfortunately due to so much rain I was unable to pick my cherries at their peak. Their peak seems to last approx 2 days. They have most gone brownish and would not be edible. Should I leave them to rot on the tree on take them off please? Thank you in advance.
Yes, take off all the cherries and plan to prune the tree either later in the summer if it's a sweet cherry or in winter when the tree is dormant.
Rotting fruit can attract all kinds of problems, so you'll need to get all the fruit off the tree, as well as off the ground.
Here are a couple articles that may help:

The article says to clean, dry, and place in refrigerator for ten weeks, then plant. In that amount of time, it will be October where I live and not the best time to plant a seedling. Will the sapling go dormant like every other tree? Is there a process to start the ten week cycle in late December or early January. After ten weeks then, Spring will be upon us.
You can plant the seeds directly into the soil outdoors in the fall, where they will undergo a natural stratification process throughout the winter. Or, you can sprout the stratified pits indoors in late winter, and plant the sprouted seedlings in your garden in the spring. I hope this helps.
Here's an interesting articles about cherry trees that might be useful, once your trees get growing:

Would like to know what is growing on the tree. There are similar growths in several branches on the tree. Please let me know what can be done to get rid of these.
It looks like black knot fungus, which causes those black galls. Here is more:

I have a cherry tree, that has put out a sprout a few feet from it. I would like to leave it alone and let it mature into its own tree.
If this is not a grafted tree, then this can be ok. However, if this is a grafted specimen, you will not want to let those continue. they will steal nutrients and water from the top grafted scion of your original tree which may kill it.
I am new to growing trees . I have a 3 year old cherry tree that grew loads of spring blossoms. they began to grow into cherries however the leaves began to curl and go black inside the curl. Loads of bumble bees were going inside the curled up leaves and at the same time the cherries and stems began to dry up (crumble to powder in my hands ) and also fall off. How do I prevent this happening next year please. Sorry no pics as only now have searched for help.
Giving your tree the best care is the best preventative. Here is how:

Hello. Do you have any idea what is going on with this cherry tree? Thank you!
Hm... This reminds me of the viral disease Rusty Mottle. This is incurable, and disease resistant trees must be purchased.
