My calla lily bulbs are starting to sprout in the bag, and I am getting prepared to plant them. Since I am a novice, I need to know if the sprout goes up or down. Thank you.
Ideally, the sprout goes up, but if they were planted with the sprout down, the plant will self-correct and still grow.
If a calla lily bulb is planted outside in May, when will they bloom? My wedding is in Oct. and I would like to use calla lilies for my bouquet. I just found a source for the bulbs today. If I plant them now, will they bloom by Oct. 18? Should I start them in a pot inside now and then transplant them outside? What is best?
Blooming times vary depending on location, temps, soil, etc. Generally, following their spring planting, they should begin blooming in summer. Most will bloom anywhere from 3-6 weeks with adequate care, though by October yours may be nearly finished for the season (not at their peak). I have planted calla lilies from Home Depot. I watered them good as soon as I got them into the ground. I water them once more about 8 hrs later. My question is, will this hurt them? How much water do they need in southern California to be happy from this point on?
This is fine as long as it's not an everyday thing. Once they're in the ground, you should keep the soil moist but not too wet. If they remain too wet, they will rot.
I live in Cleveland, Ohio - Cuyahoga County. Do I have to remove the Calla Lily from the ground for winter care?
Yes, if you live in a zone lower than 7, you should really dig them up and store them over winter. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/calla-lily/calla-lily-winter-care.htm
I received a beautiful bouquet of Calla Lilies for Mother's Day and want to put them in my flower bed. They are in full bloom and I don't know if they can be planted while blooming or if I have to wait and plant the bulb once it's finished blooming. Please advise and thank you for your time.
It is generally better to wait until the plant has finished blooming so that it will cause less shock while it re-establishes itself in its new location.
I dried and stored about 100 bulbs in the fall. Where they were stored dropped to freezing and the bulbs now look mushy. Do you think they will have a chance in growing?
Unfortunately, the mushy bulbs have died and should be thrown away. It may be too late for these, but this article can help you in the future: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/bgen/preparing-bulbs-for-winter-how-to-store-bulbs-for-winter.htm
I am growing a calla lily in a pot on my porch. When I bought it, the blooms were purple and yellow. Now it is blooming fine but the blooms remain green. What am I doing wrong?
