I received 2 different 3" tall bouganvilla "starter plants" last summer. One has grown into a 5ft vine with blossoms. The other hasn't grown much at all & seems to be a different variety & one I've never seen before. The 5ft vine has nothing showing any branches or any other hint it will do anything other than continue growing as a "vine with blossoms/bracts & leaves. Why isn't it looking more like a multi-branch boogie? Or, is this vine the extent of my plant? They're both growing in containers. And as I said, the other one is different...has chartreuse leaves, formed as a cluster atop a stem - the plant has not grown taller than it's 3" as it arrived to me with the other one last August/September. I haven't any way to contact the person who gave them to me so it appears your site is more than likely my only hope. Thank you for any insight you can offer. Love your site & how wonderful it is that you offer information as well as answer questions when we're in need of assistance. Have a glorious day! Again, Thank you. Kim

One of my bougainvilleas has developed a stringy yellow vine like growth. The growth seems to be winding around and through the plant. Due to the density of the plant, and the thorns, I am having a hard time following this yellow stringy vine back to its source. A nursery person told me that sometimes bird droppings have something that when it lands in a bougainvillea causes this problem. He also said that left unchecked, it could literally strangle and kill the bougainvillea. Can you share any ideas what I am dealing with, and how to eradicate this problem? Thank you, Steve steves.in.baja@gmail.com
I'm sorry that I'm not able to identify the vine that you are showing in the image.
I would continue to try to locate the root point of this vine and try to remove the root system if possible.
You can also cut the vine back as close to the ground as possible and 'paint' the cut end with a herbicide to kill it off. Use caution when doing this, as the herbicide will likely kill anything it touches.

We kept a Bouganvillea indoors in winter and let it go dormant. However after awhile it started to grow green again and we gave it water and some sun. Now we have a large green tree in our living room and want to put it outdoors to start blooming. What steps should we take to prepare to locate the plant outdoors and to get it to start blooming?
I don't know your growing zone, so just make sure your night temperatures are above 40 degrees F.
Give your plant some shelter from wind and sun for the first days and weeks.
Hardening off is the best way to re introduce your plant to the outdoors.
Make sure you check watering daily.
