This can be caused by many reasons. It could be that the bulb is old, or that it has died during its dormancy. Here is an article for forcing them that will help you: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/amaryllis-hippeastrum/force-amaryllis-bulbs-in-soil.htm

Oops, the things our kids do! Provide the stalk with support using a 1/4 inch dowel rods or small sticks. You may want support on both sides of the stalk. As crazy as it sounds, I would duck tape the cracked areas for support and to close any wounds and then tape the dowel rods to the duck tape. If the vasculature has been destroyed, you will lose the bloom. Leafy shoots will be appearing soon. These will nourish the bulb and let you try again next year. Info on re-using amaryllis bulbs is here: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/amaryllis-hippeastrum/amaryllis-bloom-again.htm

Amaryllis often need support for the flower stalk. I wouldn't transplant it while it is in bloom. Do you have a decorative pot that the plant, pot and all, will fit into, preferably one that is tall and will serve as a brace for the stalk? You might also convert any 8" tall box into a usable pot by covering it with holiday wrapping paper.

I would need a picture to see what you are talking about. Was it alive and growing green when you put it in the closet? It should only be put into the closet when it is dormant. If you can include a photo, then it would help me to help you better. Here is a article to help you in wintering these: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/amaryllis-hippeastrum/amaryllis-bulb-storage.htm

Only water if the top 1 inch of soil is dry. If it is flowering, repot when blooming is over. Otherwise, repot now. Some people throw out amaryllis when flowering is over. If this is your plan, don't worry about repotting.

Many amaryllis need support while flowering. Supports that can be purchased are small single stakes and orchid supports. If you have them on hand, 2 chopsticks can be placed on either side of the stem and a wide tape, like packing tape or even duct tape can be wrapped around the stem and chopsticks. If the stem "skin" is broken, wrap a layer of tape around the stem first being careful to bring the open edges together.
