Seed Pod

Question

Can anyone identify the seed pods and the plant that germinated from them? They were found on a beech in Mauritius.

Did the seeds look like coffee beans? The leaf is similar to coffee leaves and there is a type of coffee grown on Mauritius: Café de Chamarel. Bougainvillea and lantana also are popular on the islands but the leaves don't look the same. Lots of palms are indigenous.
