Q.Question Is About Japanese Maple Dissectum Red

Zone York | tommontybrowne added on May 26, 2020 | Answered

We have just planted 2 of the above mentioned plants. We have watered them every night, they are planted in the correct spot in accordance with the information that came with them. My question is, we are finding they at the trees settle in, new growth is clearly evident, but, the leaves are curling up, and basically, they are dying as quickly as they grow. Some of the leaves too are discolouring as well into a yellowy colour. Where am I going wrong please ? Tom

The watering habit needs to change, quite drastically.

Watering at night is a big no-go. This will leave the soil wet and prone to infection. Watering Every night, on top of this, will mean that the soil never has a chance to dry out. This will suffocate roots, and leave them as food for infections.

I would recommend watering during the early morning, so that the soil has a chance to dry out. Also, only water once the soil has completely dried down to a depth of about 2 or 3 inches.

You will need to apply a fungicide or bactericide as well. Your photos did not come through, so I cannot identify which infection has set in.
