Q.Pruning Minnesota Strain Redbud

this small tree is splitting at the crotch of a couple limbs. how should I trim? thanks

If the crotch angle is less than 35 degrees, it is best to remove the limb anyway. If the split is just a crack, it should heal on its own. If the trunk is damaged, you may want to get the opinion of an arborist or your local extension agent, who can tell you if the tree should be removed.
