Q.My Climbing Rose Won’t Climb Anymore.

Zone 76255 | Anonymous added on April 7, 2021 | Answered

I pruned it in February, after I planted it in April. It was gorgeous that first summer, but after pruning it, it stopped climbing & was more like a bush rose. I’ve left if alone for a couple of years, only pruning it slightly, but it still won’t climb. Will it ever climb again, or will it stay as a bush forever? And, if I cut it back to the base, could it come back to climb again?

Yes, you can cut it back to six inches and it will regrow. Here are tips on how to train it:
