Q.My Bougainvillea Plant In A Pot For Several Years

Zone Scarsdale, NY 10583 | Evelyne added on October 17, 2022 | Answered

enI have had my bougainvillea plant in a pot for several years. I live in the NY area (lower Westchester), so I just brought it inside onto my porch, where it spends the winter – around 55*F or higher. As usual, it is now losing its leaves. 1- How often should I water it? 2- Is this a good time to trim it? Thank you. Evelyne Otten

Mine get watered once the container is completely dry down about halfway into the container. This will keep them from getting any infections over the winter.

As far as leaf loss goes... This can happen due to lack of light, and lack of humidity. Increase both to decrease leaf loss.

Light pruning can be done at any time, but a heavy pruning should be done right before putting it out in spring.
