My apricot tree this year has a lot of branches with leaves only on the very end. What could cause this?

First examine your tree for signs of common diseases or pests, such as those described in this article: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/apricots/diseases-of-apricots.htm
Also think about the cultural environment your tree is growing in. This article has a number of factors you should be aware of: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/apricots/apricot-tree-growing.htm
Branches leafless except at the tips are a sign of stress. You need some analysis of soil, branches, and leaves to find out what the problem is. Your best source for this would be your local Extension Service. This link will help you find one: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/extension-search/
