apricot tree branches

My apricot tree this year has a lot of branches with leaves only on the very end. What could cause this?

Branches leafless except at the tips are a sign of stress. You need some analysis of soil, branches, and leaves to find out what the problem is. Your best source for this would be your local Extension Service. This link will help you find one: [3]
