Q.Isn’t it true that you need ants or wasps to make your peonies bloom?

My neighour killed all the ants and wasps on her peonies and they never bloomed. I left the ants and wasps alone, mine bloomed to their fullest.

No, they aren't necessary. The ants and wasps are just trying to get to the nectar from the buds. Odd, though, that your neighbor's peonies didn't bloom. I wonder if she did some dividing of the peonies. They don't like that and may not bloom for a few years afterwards.
