Q.Is my wood ash safe for composting

Zone Morpeth, Northumberland | Allonwelsh@ hot added on April 13, 2015 | Answered

I have a wood burning stove and would like to use the ash in my compost heap for my vegetable beds. However, I use products like Stovax Protector to prevent a build up of tar and creosote, etc. in the chimney (to help prevent risk of chimney fires). Is the ash safe to use?

I was not able to find anything definitive in my research. I would say that if there is any possibility of chemicals from your cleaning products intermingling with your wood ash, then I would refrain from using it.
