Q.Help! Trimmed My Climbing Rose!

Zone PL7 1SQ | Eeedaniel added on July 9, 2020 | Answered

Whilst moving, my husband trimmed all of the canes on my new climbing rose to fit it in the car for transporting. It was new last year and I now have it planted at my new house. But all the canes that were growing are now only about 75cm long. I thought they needed to grow long and be trained sideways. The trimmed canes have now obviously stopped growing in length and are growing bushy so I’m only getting a few blooms. Do I trim them all back and start again? Or do I just wait for new canes to grow? Any advice greatly appreciated – thanks!

I would just give her some time to get her root system established, then the new growth will come and can be trained. I would water her with some water that has both a product called Super Thrive and a Root Stimulator in it. Water with a fresh batch of the mix the next 4 to 5 times she needs watering.
