Growing Zone

nancy@danolivainsurance.com added on May 7, 2012 | Answered

Need help with finding a nice ground cover and wasn't sure of my zone. It's California high desert and can freeze in winter. We do have deer that eat a lot of plants. - Kernville, CA 93238

Your growing zone is basically 9 and there are many suitable plants for your growing conditions. Some good choices to start with might include stonecrop, rock cress, and hardy ice plant. Remember, even if a plant is labeled as deer-repellent, that is not the same as deer-proof. When hungry enough, deer will est anything.
