Q.Gardenia Bushes Are Not Bushy

Anonymous added on February 25, 2011 | Answered

I live in southwest Florida where we have a lot of humidity and sun. I had a new house built and I planted gardenia bushes along the north wall. It gets sun but not all day. My bushes are very stalky- not many leaves. I had a gardenia before at my other house and they were full of leaves, very bushy and grew quite well. I fertilize and water the same. What can I do to improve my bushes? Do I need to cut them back?

Yes, cutting them back may be in order. The following article should be of some help to you: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/gardenia/when-to-prune-a-gardenia.htm
