Q.dogwood still dormant

Zone 5 | liznolfe added on May 20, 2014 | Answered

Planted a dogwood last fall and it is May 20 and it is still dormant. Planted 4 a month ago and they are still dormant. When should I see it begin to leaf and flower? I am in zone 5, Ticonderoga, NY.

Check basic care for dogwood first - https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/dogwood/caring-dogwood-trees.htm
You should be seeing leaves now, although it may be too late in the season for flowers. Make sure the area where you planted is well drained, and has some morning sun, but shade from the hot sun.
The one you planted last fall may not have made it through the severe winter. Check the branches for life - if they bend, they're still alive, and the plant is just taking its own time; if the branches snap when you bend them, the tree is probably dead.
