Q.Does lawn rust fungi affect windfall apples?

Zone 5 | AmySchleske added on September 14, 2012 | Answered

We have a lot of lawn rust on our lawn this year (wet summer + very shady lawn), but that’s not my worry at the moment. A lot of our apples ended up on the ground (for a week or more), but are still usable for sauce, etc. . . – but are they still OK to use because of the lawn rust fungi? Do I need to wash them in anything special?

They should be fine. Just wash them thoroughly with water.
