Q.Aero-Garden Red Spider Mites

Started herb aero-garden two days ago. Red spider mites are crawling all over the unit. Picking them manually. Have concern that when plants germinate they will be infested with spider mites. What is the best choice–get rid of the starter kit now or do some kind of treatment? Don’t know what cycle spider mites have. Thought that aero-gardening would be easy. Don’t have any plants and live in the apartment, so the spider mites came in the starter kit.
