I purchased a mature (2' x 2') Mandevilla last summer. I placed the plant on a porch facing the west. It received direct sun for mast all the afternoon. I find now that was not correct. However, the plant thrived, bloomed and grew all summer. When the cold weather approached, I cut the plant back to the base as I do for my other plants and brought them in to a controlled temperature room. This spring I brought the plant back out along with the others plants. All the other plants have sprouted, but the Mandevilla has not. How do I determine if it is dead and should be replaced? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Jerry Burroughs treybug99@gmail.com
Mandevilla is a frost tender perennial. Your plant would need to be kept above 50 degrees for it to winter over.
Cutting it down to the soil level also may have been to much for your plant. Pruning to about 10 inches would be recommended.
Wait and see, if you see now signs of growth from the roots it did not survive.

The flowers of my mandevilla drop off naturally. Should they be pinched back?
Yes, mandevilla's bloom on new growth, so regularly pinching tips off encourages additional blooms and a bushier plant. To pinch your mandevilla vine, simply use your fingers to pinch off 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the end of each stem.

Received a gorgeous mandevilla for Mother's Day last weekend. Two nights ago, the temp dipped to 0 and yesterday it turned brown. How can I recover this plant to gorgeous again?
Here is an article on cold damaged plants that will help you. I think with a little TLC your plant should recover.

Per the article's advice, you are going to want to prune away the dead bits, keep it watered when needed and fertilize.

My mandevilla plant is dying at the base but is beautiful at the top. Why?
I suspect that your mandevilla is suffering from root or stem rot. This can be confirmed upon examination of the roots. For information on identifying and treating root rot, please visit the following article:

How do I propagate a Mandevilla from a clipping?
This article (towards bottom) should help with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/vines/mandevilla/mandevilla-propagation.htm
On my Mandeville plant, I have some yellow leaves with spots on them.
Check the leaves and plant for any signs of bugs or insects.
If found you can treat with insecticidal soap or Neem Oil.
However the yellowing leaves could be from watering issues, to much or to little.
Environmental issues can be a cause as well as natural aging of the plant.
Here are two great links to help you pinpoint the issue.

I have my plant in a contaier in the garden facing east and getting the full sun throughout the morning (this year has been dreadful though). This is the 4th year I have had a Mandevilla plant. Each year I have purchased one from a local supplier. This year the flower develops but will not open fully. It remains in an open bud formation. What can I do to encourage the flowers to open fully - could it be a genetic fault with the plant?
Here is a link with great information.
Soil, feeding the plant and the correct light conditions are very important.
