I purchased a tropical hibiscus starter online. When it arrived, it was about 12-14 inches, one stem. The tip broke so now there are two stems but it's 2 1/2 feet high. How do I prune a starter? How do I make it a bush?

Is it possible to make a Standard from tropical Hibiscus? I have a ten year standard fuchsia (during the fall/winter I keep it in a frost-free room). I would like to try something new. I live near Buffalo NY, zone 5b. I know I would have to bring the plant in during our cold weather months.
I don't think tropical hibiscus is a common plant for pruning in the Standard form, but it's worth a try. Related plants like Rose of Sharon can be pruned in that way, so it might work with tropical hibiscus.
Yes, you can plant several small plants together to form a braided stem Hibiscus.

Our yellow hibiscus is now producing orange flowers. Why?
Change in Hibiscus flower color is due to the Carotenoids in the flowers.
Hot weather increases carotenoids and is the likely cause of the color changes in your plant.
My hibiscus hasn't flowered all winter. Will it start back on its own or will I have to do something to it?
Winter is a time of rest and dormancy for most Hibiscus.

I am adding images of hibiscus buds that have holes drilled in them. Not sure what is causing these holes in the buds. I have not seen any bugs nearby, not sure if the squirrels or rats are causing them. Buds were flowering well a few weeks back, but now I am having this issue. A few months back, okra had a similar issue and I stopped growing okra. Kindly advise.
Caterpillars and Japanese beetles can attack hibiscus buds.
Hibiscus and okra are related plants, so it could very well be the same pest attacking both. Here are some other insects that can attack okra:

You may also want to contact your local extension service, since they will know about the common pests in your area.
I bought a hibiscus root last spring and it grew beautifully. This year I have 3 shoots coming up. Can I split the root?
The most common way to propagate hibiscus is by cuttings:

It is possible to divide hibiscus by splitting the root, but I think this would work better on an older plant with a larger root system.
