I bought a hibiscus root last spring and it grew beautifully. This year I have 3 shoots coming up. Can I split the root?

The most common way to propagate hibiscus is by cuttings:

It is possible to divide hibiscus by splitting the root, but I think this would work better on an older plant with a larger root system.
