Q.Zucchini

Jwfbroker added on July 7, 2011 | Answered

Should I pick my zucchini now and put them on the window sill to ripen like I do with my tomatoes? They are about 5 inches and yellow. Will the window sill work to ripen them?
Thanks,
Judy fernandez

Summer squash does not ripen much after it is picked. If they are turning yellow that small, you may have a pollination issue with the plants. If they don't get properly pollinated, the plant rejects them while they are small. You may want to try hand pollinating. Here is more information on that:

There may also be a problem with the plant getting enough water. A squash plant will also reject fruit if it is stressed by too little water.
