Q.Yellow Leaves on My Gardenia

I live in SC and planted several Gardenia letchi plants six weeks ago. I noticed this past week that many of the leaves have turned yellow. What do I need to do?

only water the tops of the plants once a day just to keep the top moist
yellow leaves means too much water good luch
