Yellow Gardenia Leaves

Question

The leaves on my gardenias are turning yellow and falling off. The buds are dropping off also. The plants are in 6-8 gallon containers, well drained and watered frequently. The plants are getting at least 6 hours of sun daily. What can I do to make them healthy?
