Same problem on my minature apple tree, the trunk was weed wacked and there is not a leaf on the tree, other than the sucker at the bottom. Will the tree survive?

Weed eater damage can be very detrimental to the tree. It allows entry for disease and insects, as well as tree girdling. Suckers on fruit trees need to be removed, so you have nothing left on your apple tree.
