worried about my tree

My son did some target practice and put about 8 bullets in my oak tree. Will it kill the tree and is there anything I can do to keep it alive? Also, will the tree bark recover the holes? I am really upset by this.

While it is not the best thing for the tree, if it is an established tree, it will recover from this. Of course, your son should not continue to do this, but most trees are able to withstand some damage like this.

Just as a precaution, treat the wounds with a fungicide and also keep and eye out for pests. If you see pests, treat the area with a pesticide as well.
