Q.Will My Hydrangea Recover Or Should Be Replaced?

Zone Angier, North Carolina | cwalton333 added on June 14, 2025 | Answered

I’ve had my Mophead Hydrangea for about 5 years and it grew large and healthy and was so beautiful. This year a late frost came and damaged it and it still hasn’t recovered. The leaves are not normal and absolutely no flowering. My question is will be it be fine next year or should I replace it?

It should recover just fine, but any growth that was already harmed will likely stay like that. You can safely remove any damaged growth, but it may be at the cost of the shape of the shrub for the year. Leaving it won't hurt, either. Care for it as usual, and it should bounce right back next season.
