Will A Barberry Regrow It’s Leaves

Question

My barberry’s leaves dried all up, I think lack of watering, the leaves have not fallen off but they’re all shriveled. However when I cut the branches it’s still green inside, so it’s still alive. My question is will new leaves grow or do I have to prune the branches back?

They should fall off and regrow, but you can hurry it along by lightly pruning and cleaning it up.
