Q.Why Will My Sorbus Aucuparia Sheerwater Seedling Not Flower

Zone Dunstable, Beds UK | Anonymous added on August 6, 2022 | Answered

I bought a 6-7ft above tree in 2019 and planted it with care in a correct position, it did not flower in 2020 and when I asked the supplier they said wait another year, I have waited and yet again it has not flowered therefore no berries. I emailed the supplier again and got no help except to look at the RHS website which I had already done and I talked to the grower but as I am not trade they would not help. I bought this specifically as I read it was a prolific flowerer but so far I have been V disappointed. Should I try feeding it in the spring – any help/advice would be much appreciated. Our soil is quite heavy but we incorporated compost ad root grow when we planted it.

It is best suited for USDA zones 3-6. Your area is outside of this zone, and may not remain cold enough for long enough during the winter to satisfy the chill requirements of the tree.

Another issue may be that your soil is too rich. High nitrogen will be very bad for the tree.
