Q.Why Did Dogwood Tree Die?
The people plant a dogwood tree, lifespan not long? I come up with:
The pH is to high.
The soil.
The hole little the roots can’t grow.
The water.
If you are referring to the wild dogwood of a previous question, did you dig this dogwood? When? Did it have leaves on it when it was dug? How large a root ball did you take? How big was the trunk? How tall was it? How much water did you use at transplanting? How often and how much water has the plant received on a weekly basis since transplanting? Did you fertilize? With what and how often? Is the plant in full sun or morning sun only? Did you mulch it? How deep, and with what? How large a hole did you did? Did you amend the soil, with what? Has the plant been damaged by machines, animals or herbicide drift?
There are many reasons plants die. Very specific questions need to be answered to eliminate all reasons that could point to the plant's death. Usually somewhere in the answers is at least part of the reason the plant died. When a consumer asks, "Why did ______ die?", I ask 15-25 questions. It has been my experience that the answer pops up in those answers. Sometimes, however, there seems to be no obvious reason, then I have to say, "I'm sorry, I don't know. You seem to have done everything right, but I just don't know."
