Q.Why are my roma tomatoes brown on the bottom?

fwflores added on May 29, 2011 | Answered

I am growing romas for the first time and so far more than half my tomatoes end up with brown/black bottoms and I have to throw them away. What is that or what causes it? Too much water/not enough? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is blossom end rot. You don't need to throw away the tomatoes, as this doesn't affect the fruit itself taste wise. Simply cut off the affected end. The following article should be of some help to you: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/tomato/tomato-blossom-rot.htm
