When to Prune Crepe Myrtles

Question

I would like to know the correct time of the year (winter months) to prune my crepe myrtles. I want to actually cut them lower than I usually do because I have used a ladder in the past to just top them, and they’re just getting too tall. I have about 7 of them in one fairly large area between myself and my neighbor. I’m in Mechanicsville, Virginia and have a couple of months left before spring.

Anytime between now and the end of March will be fine for pruning these trees.
