Q.What Type Of Seed Pod Is This And What Plant Did It Come From?

Zone Nottingham UK | paul.kyte added on April 23, 2020 | Answered

Hi I’ve been digging over my garden again ready for planting and I came across two of the following unusual pods. I opened one to see what was inside because I thought it was an old clam complete with bearded edge. But upon opening I saw it was like a seed inside about the size of a walnut. As I hadn’t damaged it I planted it back in the ground just in case it grew. Whilst planting some bulbs I unearthed a second one so took a photo of it. I haven’t opened it and can put it back in the soil. But what is it? It’s about 10cm by 6cm in size. I hope you can tell me what it is. Thanks.

Either, you have a Mango tree nearby, or someone has thrown out the old seeds!
