Q.What Type Of Container For An Arborvitae?

Just moved to Denver, Colorado and our place has a roof deck that requires privacy on one side. Was looking at arborvitae trees as a solution, and understand that they can be maintained in a container/planter. Was hoping for advice on appropriate size of containers to use. Many thanks.

It depends, largely, on the cultivar. If you choose one on the larger end of the spectrum, then you could be looking at a 15 to 20 gallon container or even larger. Smaller specimens can be kept a little under that.

They don't really make the best container specimen, though. There are several other evergreens that will do better and have a less finicky nature. This article will offer alternatives:
