Something that grows in sun or shade will work well. You don't have a lot of room so I suggest small plants like variegated liriope, dwarf nandina, or dwarf yews, which can take sun or shade. Or on the shady side, hosta and coral bells would do nicely. Then on the sunny side plant very low growing boxwood varieties.
