Q.What Is Wrong With My Plant? I’ve Never Had This Problem Before.

Zone Mandeville, LA, Zone 9 | Anonymous added on September 4, 2026 | Answered

One branch died off, and now the rest of the plant is going in that direction. I have had no problem with poinsettias before, even getting them to rebloom! Thank you for any advice.

It may have gone dormant. Cut the plant back to about 4 inches and water lightly. (let the soil dry between waterings.) Once it starts to bud out, begin fertilizing regularly.

It also is possible it developed root rot from soil not draining well. If you think this is the case, try replanting it in fresh soil and a clean container or in the ground if the soil is well draining. If any of the roots are mushy, trim them off before replanting.
