Q.What Is White Growth On Pothos Cuttings (in Water) ?

Zone Paducah, Kentucky | Anonymous added on March 21, 2023 | Answered

My niece sent me photos of something white growing on at least one of her pothos cuttings, which are in water. Is this a disease or fungus? If so, how can this be treated?

I didn't get the photo. If the white growth is coming directly from the root, it could be little fuzzy roots. If it is growing up the stem it could be a fungus or algae. Are there any leaves decaying below the water line? If so, remove those and change the water. There shouldn't be any leaves below the water when rooting or even when displaying stems of flowers in a vase. When rooting a cutting, change the water every couple days or so. That will help avoid any fungus issues.

Try to rinse off the white growth. If you've determined it isn't a root, just pull it off with a bit of paper towel and discard.
