Q.What is this plant bearing red fruit

I am attaching the pics. This plant has been on our property for many years but this year it started to have red berries type of fruit. What is it and is it edible.

From the photos, it appears to be Prunus serotina, rum cherry, black cherry, an American native. And yes, the berries are edible, but the fleshy part only, not the seeds:
The only edible part of the plant is the fleshy part of the fruit, even the seeds contain toxins.
