What is the right way to plant 10 golden leylandii please?

I purchased 10 of these in March but after watering them every 2 days for months they have not grown and are so thin and limp. I contacted the company from whom I purchased them asking for advice to get some life into them and the company simply told me the plants have failed and agreed to send me 10 new plants. I am a complete beginner when it comes to any type of gardening so would like to know if I need to add any compost or anything to the soil when I plant these new ones.
