Q.What is the best way to keep an ornamental ginger plant in the same area of the yard over the years?

I have a Butterfly ginger plant…..the rhizome travels along under the soil to placer where it doesn’t belong…..I haven’t found an answer to this question yet. Can you explain please….

The best way to control this will be to insert a metal barrier around the plant. This will not completely stop the spread, but it will help. The best way outside of this will be physical removal, or digging up the plant every few years to divide and plant just one portion of the plant back. This method is a little more intensive, though
