Q.What Is The Best Type Of Watering System To Water 45 Feet Of Sprinter Boxwoods?
I will be planting 22 quart size Sprinter Boxwoods in clay soil mixed 50/50 with steer manure. I plan on mixing some Miracle Gro Garden soil in the clay steer soil as I plant each one. I do have irrigation pipe but want to know what is the best emitter and how many and where to place the emitters for the Boxwood bushes. Also, how often should I water and for how long. I just purchased a soil moisture checker and want to know when to water. Thank you!

For shrubs, you probably want an emitter that runs 2 gallons per hour. The amount of water needed will increase as the shrubs grow. Determine the amount of spacing between each boxwood. (The tag should tell you how much space for a hedge.) You will need an emitter attached to the piping in front of each of the 22 shrubs. If your boxwoods are quart size, you won't have to water very long in the beginning. You can use your soil moisture checker to determine when next to water. Till they get established you may want to water enough to keep the soil moist.
