Q.What Do I Do About Ponytail Palm Growning Pups Where Leaves Should Be Growning

Zone North Carolina 28075 | wseaman added on March 2, 2021 | Answered

Ponytail palm was left outside in cold weather and the leaves started to die so we stripped the leaves and brought the plant inside. We thought it would die but after several weeks growth appeared where the leaves had been attached to the stem. To our surprise the growth turned out to be pups growing out where leaves should appear. What do we do? Should we remove the stem at the base? Please see photos.

Those are branches, rather than pups! This is what happens, naturally, when a plant is stressed just the right way. There is nothing to be done at this time.

Enjoy the more full appearance when it is recovered!!!
