Q.What Causes These Holes In My Yard?

Zone 73072 | mwatters47 added on October 9, 2023 | Answered

These holes appeared overnight in my front yard about a week ago. Since I have a contract with Terminix, I had a representative inspect because they do cover moles and other pests. He put on a rubber glove and stuck his hand in a couple of holes and determined that they were not caused by moles or gophers. A friend suggested that they might be earthworms. If that is the case, are they harming my lawn? The holes are only in my front yard and in a portion of my neighbor’s yard.

The nest like substance around the hole leads me to think that a bird may be trying to nest there.
