Q.gardenia bud turning black at base

Zone Salem, Oregon | Anonymous added on June 30, 2016 | Answered

What causes a gardenia bud to turn black at base? My plant was replanted in a pot after purchase from nursery stock. It receives some sun around 10 to noon then shade. Buds seemed to be flower buds but now they are opening to leaves. BUT some of the flower buds are turning black at base. Buds still look ok. None of the buds have opened yet.

Your gardenia needs more sunlight. Direct morning light or afternoon filtered. 6 to 8 hours of sunlight.

Check the watering on your plant. Also Gardenias do not like to be moved.
