Q.Weed Barrier Use

Zone Denton, Texas | Anonymous added on August 22, 2020 | Answered

Hello. I just had my back yard garden area landscaped by a local landscaper. I was watering the plants this morning noticed one laying on it’s side. When I looked at it I discovered it had been placed on top of the weed barrier, with no hole cut and held in place by the cedar mulch they laid down. I had watched them as they did this area of my yard and everything look ok. They removed the weeds that were there then laid down fabric weed barrier then put in the plants. But the plants are on top of the weed barrier. Will they be ok or will they die?

I would call the landscape company and speak to the manager. I'm sure he will send a crew out right away to properly install the plants under the weed fabric. There should be slits in the fabric for that purpose. As it is the roots do not have enough protection with just mulch covering them and they probably won't make it through the summer.
