Q.We Planted A Christmas Tree Pod On Christmas Eve. It’s Sprouted And Not Sure What The Next Step Should Be?

Zone Ng24 | Anonymous added on January 13, 2022 | Answered

The seed is a Norway spruce (picea shoes) on the package it just says. Plant the pod and watch me grow? I wasn’t expecting it to sprout this soon, my son and I would like the two sprouts to grow properly. Should I wait till they are bigger or do it soon? And what soil or compost would be best? I intend to keep them growing in pots so I can move in and out of the house for a few years then absently move and plant in the garden. Any help would be much appreciated as Google and youtube haven’t been helpful for the sprout on how/when to repot them.

Kind of strange it came in a pod. Norway spruce (Picea abies) seeds come from pine cones. I'm including a link with a photo of a spruce seedling, so you will know soon enough if it is indeed a spruce. I'm also having trouble finding that cultivar name. You can move it outside when it is about 6 inches tall (in spring or fall). It won't survive years in the home. Also, they are huge trees, not usually appropriate for residential yards.
