Q.we have a solanum glasnevin but the flowers are dropping off and in their place are hard green berries?
As its only mid-June why has this happened. It was planted in clay soil against a fence and flowered last summer but this year it has changed to these horrible green berries, is this due to the clay soil or some other problem?

This is completely normal. This means that the flowers were pollinated. A sign that it is very healthy. This article will give you more information on the many types of solanum: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/vgen/solanum-plant-family.htm
