Q.Watermelon…Trees?

mkazebee added on May 14, 2013 | Answered

My husband planted some watermelon seeds awhile back. They sprouted and grew but they never vined out like I have seen watermelon plants do. Instead, they have grown into 3 feet tall leafy trees. I’m flabbergasted at this. Has anyone heard of this or dealt with this before?

There is a variety of watermelon that is semi-upright. 'Sweet Beauty Hybrid' watermelon bears 5- to 7-pound fruits that are a good size for small families or gatherings. The sweet red flesh has superior flavor. Fruits are borne on semi-upright vines that grow up to 3 feet tall.
