Q.Want to plant low maintenance 1-2″ shady fast growing ground cover. Have clay and sand soil. What do you suggest
I have a huge oak tree and grass is very impossible to grow . Have hired Trugreen, no luck. Have planted many varieties of shady grass seed, very fragile looking and is gone before summer and nothing left by next spring. Want to plant low maintenance 1′-2″ shady fast growing ground cover. Have clay and sand soil. What do you suggest the best kind to get? Area is about 6’x 8′ . Am at my wit’s end, hate the the ugly barren ground where grass should be and was many years ago.

The best thing to put under trees is mulch out to the drip line. No need to look at barren soil.
If you prefer ground cover, consider mosses. They can survive the shade created by the trees, and they will be low maintenance other than removing debris.
